Ecospin Raptor

Two brothers from the Midlands, have spent more than two years developing the three-wheeled ‘Raptor’, an EPV with a top-speed of 25mph and can reach 60 miles on a single charge.

The duo’s company, Ecospin Ltd, has benefitted from the support of the Midlands Assembly Network (MAN), a 10-strong coalition of manufacturers dedicated to world class manufacturing, innovation and promoting the UK overseas. MAN has offered technical support and design solutions throughout the endeavour, as well as developing the Raptor’s custom-made wiring looms.

“Securing this ‘world first’ catapults the Raptor into the global spotlight and strong expressions of interest have been received from Europe, the Middle East and Far East.”

“We spent two years refining the design so that it met the requirements of the UK’s Vehicle and Operating Servicing Agency (VOSA). This means that our EPV can be registered for use on both private land and on roads, something that will appeal to police forces, local governments and major event organisers…the Olympics is one possible application.”

The Raptor has undergone rigours testing at MIRA and the SVA centre and is built on a custom-made chassis powered by a lithium-ion battery. An electronic differential and intuitive handle bars deliver expert control and cornering, and a twin rear-wheel drive provide increased traction over loose and slippery surfaces.

“The Raptor has zero emissions and typically costs less than 2pence per mile to charge...the road legal model is also free to tax and insurance is favourable compared to motorcycles. A standard model will be about £6,000 and we’ll be pitching it into the police, security companies, postal service, theme parks, event management firms and airports.”

FW Cables was responsible for the development of the Raptor’s wiring looms.
